1977 - 1983 Emlyn Watkins
Emlyn was Head of Music at Bryn Mawr Grammar School and took over the conductorship when membership was at a low ebb. At the time he had choirs in Ebbw Vale, Crickhowell and Bryn Mawr but had always wanted to conduct an orchestra. In those days the orchestra gave one main concert a year on Palm Sunday, usually in the Angel Hotel, and his soloists included his daughter Julia (now a professional violinist/teacher in London) and Joanna Cobb, granddaughter of, Mansel Thomas. He was reported to have had the 'clearest beat in Wales'.
